Have you ever wondered what an idol is?

Pastor Tim Keller defined idols in his book Counterfeit Gods that it is anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, and anything you seek to give you what only God can give. An idol is whatever you look at and say in your mind, “If I have that, then I’ll feel my life has meaning, then I‘ll know I have value, then I’ll feel significant and secure.” Idolatry is not necessarily bowing down to a carved statue stuck on a pole. No, an idol is anything that usurps God’s rightful rule in your life.

What are my idols?

This is challenging because it is not always obvious!

Can something good be an idol?

Can loving people be an idol?

Can being competitive in sports be an idol?

Can working hard in school be an idol?

The answer to all those questions is YES?!?! Come find out if and what idols may be in your life and are competing with the ONE God who loves you and wants you all for Himself!
