Vision & Mission

‘Courageous faith’ seems to be all AFC talks about (other than Jesus!).

Why is this so important to us?

Our vision

To see courageous communities cultivated for the flourishing of all.”

Our mission

To nurture students toward a courageous faith in Jesus that motivates them to live beyond themselves. This is done with an emphasis on fully honouring their Chinese identity and surrounding community.”

Why

Why courage?

1.

Because courage strengthens us to care deeply about the state of God’s world, to stand up for what’s right, share our faith, and ask the hard questions.

2.

Because courage humbles us to love people who are different than us, to help those in need, and to ask for help, instead of fearing shame

3.

Because courage brings out our full identity in Christ, to embrace and celebrate all God made us to be, not fearing imperfection, or feeling less than, to step out beyond preimposed expectations and not tie identity to works

Belonging

Why does our
identity matter?

Our God-given identity includes everything about us; our gender, personality, preferences, cultural heritage, family of origin, social context, etc. All of that, including our identity in Christ should be embraced.

  • Celebrating

It’s about celebrating your Chinese ethnicity with those with similar cultural backgrounds

  • Exploring

It’s about exploring your ethnic culture and how it can be used to honour God and serve others

  • Understanding

It’s about understanding the gospel and the Christian life in a way that resonates with your cultural background

  • Community

It’s about being on this journey with others, in community, you’re not alone

AFC aims to be a safe place where ethnically Chinese students can explore this together, in community. Our posture towards ethnicity is not one of superiority, but of acknowledgement and celebration. In embracing our Chinese heritage, we want to model what it looks like for others to be able to take pride in their own cultural background.

When students have a strong relationship with God, are fully embracing their identity in Christ, and are living in courageous communities, they partner more effectively with God in His redemptive mission, for the flourishing of all.

(Discipleship + Personhood + Fellowship) x God’s redemptive mission = Flourishing of all

Voices of faith

Hear from students, parents, and partners about their AFC experience.

“From my first year til now, KACF has been family to me. As I grow in deeper fellowship with God, it has brought about a natural overflow of joy to fellowship with brothers and sisters, sharing in the joys and burdens, and together to live as salt and light on campus."
